DDA 631 Week 02
Revised Log Line
A child’s obsession with technology results in their stunted growth, reflecting a generation of humans that aren’t sufficiently knowledgeable.
Revised Treatment
A boy living in a technologically advanced society finds himself more enticed by simulated reality as opposed to what is in front of him. He secludes himself from his peers, family and life experiences in order to maintain a sense of perceived security. Instead of going out to play when he sees the other kids having fun, he would rather simulate a hologram version of what they're experiencing. While he may think that he is secure, he is emotionally turbulent and unsure of his identity among humanity.
It all comes to a head when he finds himself losing track of time, paying attention to his tech when he should have been paying attention in school. Left alone after-hours in the empty dark hallways, he faces his fears and insecurities in the form of monsters arising from the fog. He runs down the hallways not looking back and stumbles upon a door. Rushing into the room, slamming the door, he realizes that he has entered his bedroom.
The bedroom window suddenly rips open and wind invades the space, blowing a cloth off of the full-body mirror. In the mirror the boy catches his reflection, and to his horror, he appears to be inhuman, unrecognizable and a shell of himself. He attempts to rush to another door out of his room but his body falter before he can turn the handle. Fallen and too weak to stand up, all seems to be lost until the boy's mom opens the door and hurriedly checks on her son.
The mom, realizing the severity of her son's mental state, forces him to go outside and interact with the other kids. He is scared at first, but upon approaching his peers realizes that they are more accepting of him than he thought they would be. Now playing outside and forming connections with other human beings, he has truly gained a strong sense of security - a greater gift than technology could ever give him.
